Food Build a food kit with at least three days of non-perishable food. Remember any special dietary needs. Choose canned foods with high liquid content, whole-grain cereals, and low-salt crackers.

Water One gallon of water per person per day, for drinking and sanitation. Have at least a three-day supply per person. Medical emergencies may require more water.

Supplies Battery-powered radio and extra batteries. Flashlight and extra batteries. Filter mask or cotton t-shirt, to help filter the air. Plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place. Garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation Unique family needs, such as daily prescription medications, infant formula or diapers, and important family documents.

Pets Don’t forget their food and water, too. Have leashes, kennels, and medications on hand. Many shelters will allow pets, but check before hand.

Electronics Have all electronics fully charged.

Car Fill your car with gas. Avoid driving through flooded areas.
